Professor Robert Meadows

Rob is a Professor in the Sociology department at Surrey.  His current research largely operates at the nexus of sleep, technology and mental health and includes:

  • a project looking at chatbots for mental health/wellbeing:

  • a project looking at adolescent sleep and mental health:

  • a co-authored book on technology and sleep: and

  • a co-edited collection on the global history of sleep and dreams. 

Previous work includes studies looking at the interrelationship of couples’ sleep/wake timings, an analysis of sleep/wake within institutional care environments and a ‘rhythmanalysis’ of sleep in residential rehabilitation centres. Rob is committed to public engagement has been elected to the executive committee of the British Sleep Society (twice). He was part of the team which developed the Substance Use Sleep Scale, which is now part of the SURE Recovery app.
